Teeth whitening is a collection of methods which are used for aesthetic reasons to lighten the tooth enamel.
Teeth whitening procedures are always preceded by a dental examination (it is necessary for the teeth to be cavity free and for the gums to be without inflammation), and, if needed, the removal of dental plaque and pigmentation.
Clinical whitening is a procedure performed in a dental clinic, effectively lightening the tooth enamel and returning the teeth to their natural light colour. Clinical whitening includes:
- A consultation with your dentist.
- An examination including:
- a case history diagnosis,
- an evaluation of the patient's overall dental health and state of dental hygiene,
- periodontal examination.
- Photographic documentation before the whitening procedure and after it.
- The teeth whitening procedure itself.
Teeth whitening is not recommended
for pregnant and breastfeeding women,
or persons under 18 years of age.
In the case of home whitening, it is necessary to make individual trays, onto which the whitening gel will then be applied. The patient receives a whitening kit, which contains the individual trays and the whitening gel.
